Bussey Woods Murders occur.

Two children, 15-year-old Isabella Joyce and her 8-year-old brother John, who had gone on a picnic, are later found murdered in the woods. A vagrant named “Scratch” Gravel is suspected of the murders, but no one is ever convicted of the crime. Another suspect, Henry Johnson Brent, later claims to see an apparition near the site of the murders and writes an account of the crime entitled Was It A Ghost?
